Introduction

Join up here to receive Auckland's CBD News - our monthly update on what's happening in the CBD.

Auckland's CBD Into the Future project is about transforming and revitalising the central business district of Auckland into one of the world's most vibrant and dynamic business and cultural centres. Auckland's CBD is changing. More people are choosing to live in the city centre, its waterfront is being transformed into one of the most exciting in the world, a new transport interchange has brought trains back into the centre of the city; the 12,000 seat Vector Arena has been completed, and there's more to do and see.

To continue to thrive, Auckland's CBD must attract the entrepreneurial people and businesses that a successful 21st-century city needs. These innovative people can choose to live anywhere in the world. To attract and keep them, Auckland's CBD must offer the sophisticated lifestyles and the high quality amenities and services that they demand. A successful CBD means a successful Auckland and New Zealand.

Guiding the CBD's revitalisation is Auckland's CBD Into the Future strategy and action plan adopted in 2004 after extensive research and consultation.

Work has started. Projects underway or in planning will improve access to, from and within the CBD, improve the quality of life for CBD residents, restore the CBD as a premier shopping destination, provide more and more varied events, upgrade streets and much more.

A CBD targeted rate was introduced in 2004 and is expected to generate an additional $167 million for projects in the CBD over the next 10 years. It will enable rapid progress to transform the look and feel of the CBD.
